Everyone remembers Michael Jackson for his dance movies, classic songs, and quirky idiosyncrasies. However, not many knew Jackson was a vegetarian.

Obviously, Jackson’s premature death and his vegetarianism have nothing to do with one another. The autopsy has not come in yet, but no one has attributed his death to his diet.

Aside from Jackson, there are several famous people who have a plant based diet.

The following people are all vegans:

Singer Alanis Morissette
Actress Alicia Silverstone
Actress Alyssa Milano
OutKast’s Andre 3000
Fall Out Boy’s Andy Hurley
Red Hot Chilli Pepper’s Anthony Kiedis
Singer Barry White
Actor Casey Affleck
Politician Dennis Kucinich
Model Heather Mills
Singer Jason Mraz
Actor Joaquin Phoenix
Leonardo Da Vinci
Musician Moby
Toby Maguire
Actress Vanessa A. There are several ethical and health reasons for becoming a vegan. Veganism helps the planet, helps animals, and helps humans. Here are some “Fast Facts” to quickly illustrate the benefits of a plant based diet.

Eating meat is an inefficient use of resources. It takes roughly six pounds of plants and grain to produce one pound of meat.

Agricultural livestock uses about one-third of the world's total land area.

16 percent of methane comes from cattle. Factory farming is one of the biggest contributors to global warming.

Animal foods generally have more saturated fat and cholesterol while plant foods typically have more healthy fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants.

Diets with less meat have been shown to dramatically reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer.

500,000 animals are killed for meat every single hour.

Slaughterhouse workers have the highest rates of on the job injury.

Clearly there are many benefits of veganism. Which one appeals most to you?

Welcome to Vegan Information!

Vegan Information is your reference for all things vegan! This page discusses everything you need to know about veganism, vegetarianism, health, weight loss, and animal rights.

But there's one logical place to begin: veganism defined. While there are several definitions, being "vegan" at its core means not eating meat, poultry, fish, dairy, or honey. Outside of pure veganism sits several forms of vegetarianism.

Ovo-vegetarians are like vegans, but eat eggs and honey.

Lacto-vegetarians eat dairy and honey, but no meat, fish, poultry, dairy or honey.

Lacto-ovo vegetarians eat eggs, dairy, and honey, but no meat, fish, or poultry.

Pescetarians are lacto-ovo vegetarians that eat fish.

Semi-vegetarians often just exclude one type of meat from their diet - usually red meat.

Pollotarians don't eat meat with the except of poultry or fowl.

And my favorite...

Flexitarians are people who usually follow a vegetarian diet, but sometimes make exceptions.

The terminology can seem a little overwhelming. Basically, all of these diets exclude some kind of animal product for ethical or health reasons. So the definition of a vegetarian or vegan may not be simple, but the overall concept is fairly easy to grasp.
